Gor Mahia midfielder Khalid Aucho made a statement of his prowess to his suitors as he scored in Uganda Cranes 2-1 win over Botswana in a the 2017 African Cup of Nations Qualifiers match played on Saturday June 4 at the FrancisTown Stadium.
William Luwanga put the visitors into the lead ten minutes into the game after a sublime pass from Tony Mawejje; a lead they preserved until the break.
The hosts were to restore parity four minutes after resumption through Onkabetse Makgantai but Aucho restored the Cranes lead four minutes later with a sublime finish.
Head coach Micho in a bid to protect his lead threw in Godfrey Walusimbi, who was a surprise omission from the starting team for Faruk Miya in the 64th minute. Despite the enormous pressure from the hosts, the Cranes were able to hold on to boosts their chances of making it to Gabon in 2017.
Uganda are now on top of their Group D with 10 points waiting the Burkina Faso and Comoros game slated for Sunday 5 June in Comoros. Burkina Faso are on seven points while Comoros are on three points.
