Equatorial Guinea, who were reinstated after winning an appeal against Kenya were caught by surprise after Zambia recorded her first ever win in the Africa Women's Cup of Nations (AWCON)- a 5-0 spanking in Group B.
Zambia scored their first goal through a free kick from Grace Chanda seven minutes after kick off, making Equatorial feel the heat and trying to level up. they came close at drawing level with the Shepolopolo in the 24th minute but failed after goalkeeper Hazel Nali's heroics for Zambia.
Irene Irungu scored the second goal before halftime with a free kick leaving Equatorial Guinea feeling the pressure as they tried to break Zambia's defense.
Just before the hour mark, Zambia scored their third goal through Racheal Kundananji and ten minutes later Mary Mwakapila added yet another one.
Kundananji would later emerge as player of the match and scored her second goal three minutes to stoppage time after failing to convert a penalty in the 76th minute giving the Shepolopolo a 5-0 win.
Zambia takes position one in Group B with three points as South Africa who are in position two after defeating Nigeria 1-0. Meanwhile Zambia will be facing the defending champions Nigeria on Wednesday 21 November.
