Dependable Rayon Sport and Amavubi anchorman Mukunzi Yannick will miss his club's key CAF Confederations Cup clash against Gor Mahia FC set for 19th of August after the Confederation of African Football found him- among two others, on the wrong end or a recent brawl in the competition.
A three-match ban and a USD 10,000 fine for Mukunzi is the result of a heated brawl pitting Rayon Sport and Algerian outfit USM Alger when the two faced off in match day 4 of the CAF Confederations Cup. Kassim Ndayisenga and Christ Mbondi were also found guilty from the incident and fined USD 5000 each, and a two-match ban.
Currently sitting second from bottom in the Group D log, the Rwandese champions thought they had just done the unthinkable and gabbed three points from USM Alger in Algeria on the 29th of July but an 86th minute Mohammed Amine strike cancelled out Isamailia Diarra's earlier opener. The tie settled at 1-1, but not after a near-fight that threatened to prematurely end the game.
While the two sides clashed in Algiers, Gor Mahia had on the other hand flogged Tanzanian giants Young Africans SC to climb to the summit of the Group D log. Tied at 8 points with Alger, the Kenyan champions will look to make the most of the trio's absence in order to affirm their pole position on the log, and hopefully land a weaker opposition in the quarter-finals.
Rayon travel to Nairobi on the 19th of August having held Gor Mahia to a 1-1 draw in Kigali in the first leg, a tie played out in May.
