Harambee Stars duo of Jesse Were and David Owino aided Zesco United ruthless riot over Zanzibar side Jeshi la Kujenga Uchumi (JKU) SC as they emphatically cruised to the First round of the CAF Champions League with a 7-0 thumping (7-0 aggregate) at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, Zambia on Wednesday 21 February.
The opening encounter in Zanzibar ended in a barren draw leaving Zesco with all to work for in the return fixture and they didn’t disappoint in front of their home fans dispatching JKU in an emphatic fashion. New signing Adams Zikiru had the perfect debut netting four goals, as he announced himself to the Zesco fans. Zesco went into the break leading by three goals courtesy of a brace from Adams and a thunderbolt from Lazarus Kambole who curled in a wonderful effort outside the 18 yard area.
The onslaught continued in the second half as Adams grabbed his debut hat-trick 12 minutes after the resumption of the half. The floodgates opened two minutes later as Adams grabbed his fourth time giving the JKU defenders a torrid time. Jesse Were made way for Logic Chingandu with 16 minutes left on the clock. There was still time for Zesco to add a sixth courtesy of Winstone Kalengo. The final nail in JKU’s coffin was drilled in by Lameck Banda who converted from the spot kick to compound misery to JKU.
