CECAFA: Hosts Rwanda summons 24 for duty

The 2018 CECAFA Women Championship hosts Rwanda have summoned 24 players to begin preparations ahead of the tournament slated to kick off on Thursday 19 July in Kigali, Rwanda.

Under head coach Kayiranga Jean Baptista, the team will start off against reigning champions Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro Queens in the opening match of the regional tournament, which is scheduled for Stade de Kigali.

Ethiopia

The Rwandan ladies will be back to action on Monday July 23 when they host Ethiopia at 16:15, then face Uganda on Wednesday July 25 before concluding their campaign on Friday July 27 against Kenya.

The majority of the players summoned are drawn from reigning National Women League champions AS Kigali WFC, league runners-up Scandinavia WFC, Kamonyi WFC and Rambura WFC respectively.

Former AS Kigali player Mukamana Clementine who plies her trade with Tanzania’s Kigoma Sisters is the only foreign-based player summoned to beef up the squad.

Tanzania won the title after edging Kenya in the final of the last edition while Ethiopia overcame hosts Uganda to take third place in the competition held in Uganda.
