Chemelil fans meet players, set 2018 targets

Minutes after Chemelil Sugar fans saw their team salvage a point at the death against visiting Kariobangi Sharks on Saturday 17 in a Kenyan Premier League (KPL) clash, the players were quickly herded together by what we know understand is the Chemelil Sugar FC Fans Association; they had been thrilled by their team's resolve to fight to the end and a cold bottle of soda for each was their token of appreciation- at least for a start.

Isaac Odero Mbeche, the Chemelil Sugar Fans Patron reveals that its is an initiative they have for the first time this year and is intended for the sole purpose of motivation to the players. For a team that weaved through a few financial blips in the 2017 KPL season, this comes as a welcome relief. Odero talks to Soka.

''It is the first time we are starting this; a fans initiative to motivate our players after every game. The season is still young and we know many teams are prepared for it that's why we are going the extra mile to motivate our own. The most important thing is to let the know they are not alone,''  says Odero who is a Sugarcane farmer around Chemelil.

Coached by former Agro Chemical FC tactician Patrick Odhiambo, Chemelil had not conceded in their first two opening games but an Eric Kapaito belter finally broke John Waw's seemingly impermeable wall in between the sticks. Tanzanian International Amani Peter would however restore parity with just a minute of play left.

Having lost just one match at home last season (Sofapaka), Odero sees the possibility of improving on the home form now that the fans are aboard the club's journey through the 2018 campaign.

''We were looking forward to a big win but all teams are also prepared and our opponents gave us a good match. We take that point but at the end of the season we should finish in the top ten. It's a big challenge but we will try our best,'' he adds.

In the brief engagement with the playing unit after the match, Mr Odero had his committee introduced to the players and the Technical Bench. Chemelil next travel to to Nairobi to face Posta Rangers FC, a match set to be hosted at Jericho's Camp Toyoyo Grounds.
