Only one match day remains before the mid-season break for teams in the FKF Division One League. With promotion to the National Super League (NSL) at stake come end of the season, it has been a competitive campaign so far across both zones with new and familiar teams leading the way.

After three years struggling in the third tier, former Kenyan Premier League (KPL) stalwarts Shabana FC are on course for a return to the NSL as they currently sit second in Zone B with 25 points, five adrift of leaders Eldoret Youth after 12 rounds of play.

Down to the wire

Having won seven and lost just once thus far, Shabana’s season is only bettered by that of Eldoret Youth who have claimed nine victories without blemish. And if the first round of fixtures are anything to go by the then season will go all the way down to the wire.

Shabana suffered a slight setback in the previous clash away to seventh place Raiply as the two teams played out a 1-1 draw on Sunday 13 May to allow Eldoret Youth extend their lead at the top with a 3-0 thrashing of fourth from bottom Transamara Sugar.

At the opposite end of the table bottom team Griffin secured their first win of the season as they defeated Nyakach United 2-1 on Monday 14 May in a match played at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu but it was not enough to help them claw their way out of the drop zone. The Kisumu based side after 11 matches are bottom with five points, seven adrift of safety.

Fortune Sacco

In Zone A, Fortune Sacco, after finishing 10th last season, currently lead the Zone with 33 points after a flawless start to the campaign are the only team in the division with 100% record, having won all 11 of their matches thus far.

They are closely followed by Mwatate United who finished fourth in last season’s campaign. Mwatate are on 29 points from 12 matches with nine wins and a single defeat.

Ministry of Sports side MOSCA after suffering relegation from the NSL last season continue to struggle in the third tier as they lie third from bottom with eight points, only two points separate them from the relegation zone.

Savannah Cement who finished ninth last season are bottom of the pile with five points from 12 matches.
