Sony Sugar enhanced their hopes of a top half finish when they thrashed Muhoroni Youth 5-0 in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) encounter staged at the Awendo Green Stadium on Tuesday 14 November.

Ugandan George Abege scored a brace, the goals coming in the 14th and 33rd minutes, before Benjamin Mosha, Victor Ademba and David Simiyu netted a goal apiece in the 51st, 72nd and 73rd minutes.

The hosts were never under threat in the game as they raced into an early lead against the team already relegated heading to the clash and the two goal cushion heading to the break said it all. The third would come just six minutes after resumption but Hassan Kiyoyo pulled one back for the beleaguered visitors in the 67th minute from a penalty.

There was no comeback expected from Muhoroni though, as Victor Ademba put the match beyond their reach with the fourth in the 72nd minute, and David Simiyu put the icing on the cake with goal number five a minute later to ensure the hosts took full advantage of their vulnerable visitors.

Speaking after the match, Muhoroni Youth coach Jeff Odongo blamed his charges' attitude in the match as he slammed the general performance, terming it below par.

"My players' attitude was poor; we didn't play well at all. It's like they have given up completely, we were very poor and I must be honest. We now go back to prepare for our final match against Leopards. My players need to understand that they are playing for themselves right now.

Sony coach Salim Babu, on the other hand, was delighted by his team's performance but warned them not to let it get into their heads since they have an uphill task against Gor Mahia in the final game.

"I must commend the boys for putting up a good show in this match. We had lost to Nakumatt prior to this and they needed to bounce back with a win before we face Gor Mahia in Kisumu. I can only urge them not to celebrate too much, but rather focus on our upcoming match which will not be an easy one," Babu said.

Sony are now 10th on the log, above AFC Leopards with 42 points.
