As the Azam sponsored Tanzania Women Premier League (TWPL) enters the third round, former Harambee Starlets forward Lilly Awuor maintained her scoring streak, netting a brace as her team Kigoma Sisters thrashed Majengo FC 8-0 in the match played the Tanganyika Grounds on Sunday 20 November to take her tally to five goals in two matches.

After a fine start to life in the league, the striker says she will not relent in the quest to cement a place among the best scorers, with Tanzanian international Mwanahamisi Omar placed second with four goals in two matches. Speaking of her progress, she said her main aim is to score the most goals so as to bag the accolade though she knows it will not be a walk in the park.

Focus

“My main focus is to win the top scorer's award at the end of the season. The race is tight, since it is a very competitive league. I am not saying it will be easy but there is no harm in trying. I believe in my capabilities and I know with good preparation, we will achieve our goal as a team,” she said as she credited her fast rise in the league to the massive support she gets from her teammates and the technical bench.

Support

“My success in the team has been mainly because of the support from the team members who have encouraged me throughout my stay. Even if I score goals it is not by individual effort, it is the team effort and as a result of the positive energy from the playing unit.”

Notably, Mwanahamisi Omar scored against Harambee Starlets in CECAFA and netted  a brace in the International friendly between Tanzania and Cameroon, where the former edged the 2016 African Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) hosts 2-1 in their last friendly match.
