In an attempt to have the MISC Kasarani full to the rafters for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier between Kenya and Ethiopia on Sunday 14 October, the Government of Kenya through the Sports Ministry has waved off gate charges for the match day 4 clash.

In a letter by Sports Cabinet Secretary Mr. Rashid Achesa, no fan will be expected to pay a dime to watch the national team on Sunday; this coming a day after Harambee Stars earned a valuable point in the qualification process for next year’s tourney in Cameroon by holding Ethiopia to a scoreless draw in Amhara and in turn boost their chances for making it to the AFCON stage for the first time since 2004.

Mandate

Achesa noted too that it was their mandate to support the national team in any way they could and urged patriotic Kenyans to come out in large numbers on Sunday as well as wishing the team the best of luck in their preps.

Kenya currently leads Group F with four points, one ahead of second placed Ghana and three above Ethiopia whose qualification process was dented after Sierra Leone, who they beat on match day 2, were suspended from the competition.

Below is part of the letter released by the Ministry;

Our National Soccer Team Harambee Stars has continued to perform well in the AFCON Matches where Kenya has beaten Ghana and drawn with Ethiopia. In this respect, the government has stepped up support for the tam to ensure that Kenya qualifies for the AFCON 2019 Championships to be held in Cameroon.

On Sunday 14/10/2018, Kenya will be hosting Ethiopia in a return second leg AFCON match at Moi International Sports Center Kasarani. Consequently, it is important that as patriotic Kenyans, it is our duty to support the team unreservedly.

Subsequently, I wish to announce that entry to the Stadium at Kasarani will be free of charge to allow Kenyans cheer their team to victory. A win for Harambee Stars in this match will take the team to the brink of Kenya qualifying for AFCON 2019 in Cameroon. In this regard, I wish our team Harambee Stars all the best as they prepare to take on the Ethiopians.
