Gor Mahia eases past Naivas in friendly

Division two side Naivas FC lost 6-1 to Kenyan Premier League (KPL) leaders Gor Mahia in a friendly match played on Wednesday 4 October at the Jericho Camp Toyoyo Grounds.

Former Headquarter FC striker Derrick Otanga netted the lone goal for Naivas, while Gor Mahia goals were scored by Boniface Onyango who netted a brace, as John Ndirangu, Mohamed Maqbul, Oliver Maloba and Anthony Mbugua scored a goal apiece.

Speaking after the match, Otanga said that he was happy to have scored in the match and will work hard to continue making a mark for the supermarket chain side in the league.

Tough mentality

“We did our best in the match, and I am happy that I managed to score. It was a good test against a highly experienced side and it will go a long way in enabling us develop a tough mentality when facing league matches.

Naivas are currently top of the table in the Nairobi East Regional League, and Otanga believes that the team has what it takes to be crowned champions at the end of the season.


"Our aim is to finish top of the table and get promotion to the Division one league. So far so good and with the current squad, I am optimistic that we will maintain our place at the top,” Otanga said.

Naivas will face Gor Youth in their next match that will played on Saturday 15 October.
