Harambee Stars head coach Sebastien Migne has called up 24 players to the national team in preparation for the coming friendly matches, against Swaziland and Equatorial Guinea, scheduled for May 25 and 28 respectively, and also pulled a first in naming nine players, who will be on the stand by list in the event that any of the 24 called up fail to make it.
A notable inclusion in the team is Gor Mahia's utility player, Philemon Otieno who has lately been deployed by the team as a right back, to much effect for the Dylan Kerr both domestically and in Africa.
Eric Marcelo Ouma, formerly of Gor Mahia but now with FK Tirana in Albania is also in the team, marking a return after a lengthy spell out and he comes alongside former Gor Mahia skipper Musa Mohamed who is currently unattached, having parted company with FK Tirana.
Masud Juma also marks a comeback to the team after months out with injury while Robert Arot of Nakuru AllStars is the only player from the National Super League (NSL) picked by the Frenchman, and he goes straight to the reserve players' list.
According to Football Kenya Federation (FKF), the team reports to camp on Monday 21 May but will be without Girona striker Michael Olunga who has requested to be excused from the two fixtures due to pre-planned club engagements.
“We had called Olunga but had to replace him when it became evident he would not make it for the two matches,” said Migné as quoted on the FKF site.
“We, however, expect him to be part of the squad that will travel to India for the Hero Intercontinental Cup scheduled to begin on June 1, 2018".
The team will camp at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies, with the friendlies set to be played at the Kasarani Stadium.
