Days after being called up to the Harambee Stars squad for upcoming international games against Uganda and Zambia, Church Broughton-born defender Joshua Kipkemboi Lelan has landed a trial with Swedish third tier side Vasteras SK.

Lelan, 21, has been in between clubs since his one year deal with English side Northampton Town at the close of the 2015/16 season.

Derby County

He was sampled in the second half in a friendly against IK Franke at the Solid Park Arena, a game that ended 2-2. Other than Lelan, Vasteras SK, a team that had Kenyan midfielder in its ranks back in the 2007-8 season, also had midfielder Gustav Källberg, from Norway’s FK Ørn Horten and left back Lucas Ohlander from Helsingborg FF on trial.

The club has to move fast and make a call to sign Lelan, or the other two before the transfer window shuts on Thursday night (11 August). Lelan is a product of Derby County's youth system and between 2013 and 2015.

Loan spells Gateshead in 2013 and Swindon Town in 2014 saw him land at his last club – Northampton. Till the trials at Vasteras, Lelan had been tried out by League One side Gillingham and League Two team Plymouth Argyle.
