Kakamega Homeboyz Head coach Mike Mururi says their loss to Sofapaka FC was as a result of poor communication amongst his backline players.
Substitute Elly Asieche who came in for Teddy Osok netted the lone goal of the match in the additional minutes after beating Homeboyz offside trap. The goal saw Sofapaka earn the second ever Kenyan Premier League win over Homeboyz in seven meetingS.
Mururi feels his side should have buried the game early owing to the chances they had in the opening half. He is prioritizing gelling as he seeks an immediate return winning ways in the next league tie.
“We conceded a late goal because of lack of communication and misunderstanding among my defenders. The defenders thought the scorer was offside. Generally we did not play well as we did in the opening game of the league. We also failed to utilize our first half chances. I feel that we are yet to gel but it is just the start of the league we need to recover in the next game and pick maximum points,” he said.
Homeboyz will travel to Nairobi to face newbies Wazito FC in a match that will be staged Camp Toyoyo. The Kakamega based side will be in search of the second straight win on the road after having beaten Thika United by a solitary goal on match day one.
Last season Homeboyz managed just three away wins in 17 away matches.
