Kakamega Homeboyz midfielder Eston Esiye has urged the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) management to work on a way to televise more matches in the coming 2018/19 season.
The midfielder who has been one of the most outstanding players in the 2018 season feels that the players in the league aren’t marketed well outside the boarder since the current deal with Media Pro isn’t as penetrative enough as former broadcasters Supersport in showing their potential to a broader audience.
“Gauging the progress of the league and the players is hard to say because not many of the games are televised. Mediapro is doing some good work with the broadcast but I don’t think they have the potential that Supersport had in showcasing our talents outside our boarders. The few games that are shown makes it hard for most of us to be spotted by scouts who might not be in the country,” Esiye said minutes after representing his club in the 2018 KPL Awards nominations.
On his club’s performance in the just concluded season, Esiye said they had hoped to better last season’s top five finish but couldn’t manage that since they had a lot of changes in the season that might have destabilized the team in the process.

“Our main target in the 2018 season was to finish among the best five teams because in 2017 we finished fifth but that didn’t happen because we had changes more so in the technical bench. It takes time for players to get with new requirements by new coaches and I think slowed our form in the season. But currently we know how the coach wants to work and I know we will have a better outing in the coming season,” Esiye added.
Homeboyz will be opening their 2018/19 season with a tie against newbies KCB at the Bukhungu Stadium on Saturday 8 December.
