Kenyan trio overlooked in nominations for end - year awards

Kenyan trio of David Owino, Jesse Were and Anthony Akumu, attached with Zesco United in the Zambian Super League (ZSL) will not be in contention for any of the end year awards in Zambia after being overlooked in the list of nominees despite having had a stellar season.

Owino not only featured in the CAF Champions League team of the season after helping Zesco United to a semi final berth but had a few crucial goals for his team in the race to finish second in the ZSL behind Zanaco.

Were too had a thrilling season with Team ya Ziko in 2016 coming second among the top scorers with 16 league goals on his debut season but his performance was clearly not enough to guarantee him a slot among the nominees.

Top Scorer

The top scorer's gong will go to Nkana's Walter Bwalya after banging 24 goals all season with George Lwandamina, now with Tanzanian giants Yanga SC nominated in the Coach of the Year category.

The omission of the Kenyan trio aside, Zesco United has a number of players in the nominees' list with Meshack Chila having been nominated in the Footballer of the Year category. Jacob Banda is in the Most Disciplined Player of the Year category with youngster Shemy Mayembe also in the shortlist.
