When Seth Oyugi made the trip from Bondo to Kisumu, he was full of confidence that he would take part in the 2018 National Super League (NSL). Part of the selected team that was to form Kisumu All Stars, Oyugi's luck however diminished when he failed to make the final cut. He had to look for a quick alternative elsewhere.
He may not have landed second-tier football but Oyugi- manning Kisumu Hot Stars' center-forward role, already has seven goals from 12 matches and doesn't look like stopping there. Hot Stars, an FKF Division 1 outfit, served a meaningful relief to the youngster who had considered heading back to Bondo.
''I was confident of playing the NSL this year. It seems luck was not on my side but I will keep on trying. Kisumu Hot Stars as been a great club for me and I believe if only we get a few thing right in this transfer window, we can get ourselves to second tier football next year,'' says Oyugi.
According to Seth, Hot Stars' incredible form can be further boosted by a few additions in the mid-season transfer window. His center-forward role for example, needs a back-up and with enough depth, he says they can give log leaders Eldoret Youth and Shabana FC a run for their money in the second half of the season.
''I scored a brace against Shabana when we beat them away from home but I know they are a good side so we must prepare well before we face off in the second leg of the season,'' he adds.
Oyugi, who had spent three seasons at Bondo United before his Hot Stars stint, went back to haunt his former side when they grabbed a 1-0 victory in Bondo- one in a string of good results for Hot Stars. His other goals have come against Trans Mara Sugar, Griffin and Timsales (brace).
With the leagues almost going on a mid-season recess, the former Usenge High School student does not rule out any chance of a potential move from Hot Stars should he be invited at the top level.
''I have been in this league for quite some time and it is always my wish to play at the top level. It is my prayer that we as a club do some serious business by bringing in more quality to the team so that we stand a better chance of qualifying. If any top level chance comes my way however, I am ready to try out,'' he concludes.
Hot Stars' latest result saw them slip against Poror Mote- a side that with their 3-1 victory over Hot Stars, made it two in two in Kisumu. Two weeks ago, they had dispatched another Kisumu side Griffin FC.
