A wasteful Mathare United was held to a goalless draw by visiting Chemelil Sugar FC in a Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match played in Thika on Wednesday 26 April from 3pm EAT.
David Owino had the first opportunity to shoot the hosts ahead on the eighth minute but his attempt was blocked by Jairus Adira. Cliff Nyakeya exchanged passes with Owino but the former Laiser Hill student attempt was brilliantly kept out by Adira's outstretched leg.
Derrick Onyango was another culprit of wasted opportunities, twice failing to beat Adira while inside the box. A wild shot from George Owino summed up a frustrating half hour for the Slum Boys who were without Head Coach Francis Kimanzi on the touchline as he is serving a one month touchline ban.
Owino's goal at the stroke of halftime was denied for an offside, the first half ending goalless.
In the second half, both sides had equal chances with Chemelil's Shaphan Siwa missing a 60th minute chance as Lennox Ogutu splashed on the other side. Daniel Mwaura would have netted the winner on the 68th minute but his shot hit the crossbar.
The draw leaves Mathare 16th on the table with six points while Chemelil take their tally to 12 points ahead of their clash with Kariobangi Sharks.
Posta 1~0 Sony Sugar FC
Elsewhere in Awendo, Posta Rangers beat Sony Sugar 1-0 to stretch their winning streak to four games in seven. Jared Obwoge came off the bench to hand Sammy Omollo the winner on the 83rd minute.
Posta top the standings on 17 points from seven rounds. They next host AFC Leopards on Saturday 29 April in Nakuru.
