The Kenyan Premier League AllStars team that will be heading off to Spain for twio friendly matches, on Tuesday 11 July played to a 1 – 1 draw with top flight side Posta Rangers in a warm up game at Camp Toyoyo.
The match was a drab affair in the first half but came alive in the second as Rangers took the lead in the 65th minute through Edwin Mwaura with a tap in at the far post after nice work on the right wing by Eric Kibiru.
Mwaura’s goal came minutes after Rangers forward Dennis Mukaisi had forced a fine save from goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya before Jerry Santos also brought out the best of the Ugandan shotstopper.
Tusker midfielder Jackson Macharia was the liveliest as AllStars went on an all out offensive in search for the equalizer and had a perfectly weighted shot come off the upright.
The pressure from AllStars forced Rangers into defensive errors and one such saw goalkeeper Patrick Matasi adjudged to have felled Samuel Onyango as he bore down on goal. Controversial as the situation turned to be, the referee pointed to the spot on the 76th minute, handing AllStars a chance to level the scores.
Robinson Kamura stepped up to take it but Matasi redeemed himself with a good save to uphold his team’s advantage.
That however was momentary joy as towards the end of the game Ovella Ochieng netted to restore parity.
The AllStars team, currently made of 20 players, will be trimmed to 18 ahead of a trip to Spain where it will play Cordoba and Sevilla Atletico in friendly matches on Wednesday 19 July and Saturday 22 July.
