The Kenya Premier League (KPL) continues with five matches scheduled for Saturday 7 October in different parts of the country. The match between Kariobangi Sharks and AFC Leopards at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos is the only game to have a live TV coverage.
Sony Sugar vs Ulinzi Stars
After going down by a single goal to Kakamega Homeboyz last time out, fourth on the log Ulinzi Stars will travel to Awendo looking to get back to winning ways. They will come up against a Sony team that is experiencing a rich vein of form. The sugarmen are unbeaten in their last four league games with three wins and a draw. Two of those three wins have come in back to back victories against defending champions Tusker and league heavyweights AFC Leopards.
Sony have not lost at home since a 1-0 loss to Bandari more than three months ago and will definitely prove to be a stern test for the soldiers who will go into the match without the services of topscorer Stephen Waruru and Samuel Onyango as the two are currently with the national team Harambee Stars.
With victory, 11 placed Sony will move up to ninth on the log with 36 points.
Western Stima vs Bandari
Second from bottom and with 23 points from 26 games played thus far, Western Stima are having a season to forget and have lost five of their last 10 games registering only two victories. It is a poor run of form which in turn prompted the club’s management to relieve long serving coach Henry Omino of his duties and appoint Ugandan Richard Makumbi.
They play host to free falling Bandari FC who are also in a poor run of form. The coastal based side have lost three games in a row to stretch their season’s total to 12 loses. Only Stima have lost more (13).
With victory, Stima can move to within one point of 15 place Thika United (27) who have played two games more.
Zoo Kericho vs Kakamega Homeboyz
Back to competitive league action after a two week hiatus, Zoo Kericho will welcome highflying Kakamega Homeboyz to their Kericho Green Stadium with the sole aim of reverting a three game losing streak before the high court’s decision to suspend them.
Homeboyz recent form is only bettered by that of runaway leaders Gor Mahia. The Mike Mururi led side have won four of their last six games including a moral boosting 2-1 win over second place Sofapaka on matchday 26.
Both team have contrasting fortunes when it comes to defensive capabilities, Zoo have the leakiest defense in the league with 40 goals conceded thus far while Homeboyz have let in the fewest amount with 15.
Kariobangi Sharks vs AFC Leopards
The only live TV coverage of the round, this game will have utmost importance to both teams as they both prepare to do battle in this seasons Gotv final in two weeks’ time. Sharks are faring much better in the league as they lie six places above Leopards in 12th.
Both teams will be without key players for the fixture with Leopards missing the services of defensive unit of Robinson Kamura and Dennis Sikhyai while Sharks will be without striker Masud Juma and midfielder Patillah Omotto. Both sets of players are currently on national team duty.
