Ligi Ndogo's U13 squad made it to the final eight of the Viesse Roma Cup that came to a close on Tuesday 25 April in Rome, Italy.

The young lads coached by Iddi Badi started on a false note after going down to eventual winners Capua but dusted themselves to post three straight wins to book a place in the quarterfinals.

Kevin Wangaya named midfielder of the tournament

The perfect streak started with a 3-2 win over Lazio. Kevin Wangaya, Zein Mwakitawa and James Gachago scored for Ligi in that game. A 4-1 win over Mirabilla then followed with goals from Gill Harel, Joseph Munala, Kevin Wangaya and Samuel Kabotov.

Wangaya scored the lone goal as Ligi confirmed a second place finish in the pool with a 1-0 win over Blue Devils.

They however bowed out of the competition at the first knockout stage after respectably going down 2-0 to a more experienced Roma in the quarters.

Though denied a place in the last four, Ligi provided the midfielder of the tournament - Wangaya who was handed a shirt personally signed by Manchester United star Paul Pogba.

Capua went on to win the tournament after seeing off Roma 3-0 in the final.

In October of 2016 a Ligi U11 team attended the Memorial Prof. Giuseppe Cirillo Viesse Cup in Napoli, Italy where they scooped two awards after making it to the round of 16. While the team took home the most disciplined award, Badi was named the best coach in that category.
