Despite their blip in Week Six of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) action, Mathare United striker Cliff Nyakeya believes he is able to guide his team back to winning ways when they come up against Sony Sugar in Awendo on Saturday 17 March.
Nyakeya as quoted by the club’s official portal believes they gave away cheap goals in their 3-4 loss at the hands of AFC Leopards in their last league outing but he's confident fortunes are going to turn in their favour this time out.
“We are playing very good football this season because we recruited well. The team has technical gifted players and we have an amazing coach to guide us. I believe that we will score in Awendo if our recent record is anything to go by.
“Last time we gave away some cheap goals so we have to be more compact at the back and defend as a team,” Nyakeya said.
The youngster, who scored a brace against AFC Leopards says his ambition is to bag a minimum of ten goals this year.
“Last season I got three goals but I have already matched that early into the season. This season I want to get at least ten goals and as many assists. The coaches have been pushing me very well since we started preseason and I want to continue working harder,” assert Nyakeya.
Nyakeya is currently joint top on the club’s top scorers’ chart with Francis Omondi who also has three goals to his name. Clifford Alwanga and last season’s top scorer Francis Oduor are tied at two goals in second place.
