Nakumatt FC forward Boniface Mukhekhe was one of the most sought after players in the June mid-season transfer window, the May Kenyan Premier League player of the month finally revealed that AFC Leopards, Tusker and Ulinzi Stars were after his signature.
Mukhekhe has had a stellar debut season in the KPL after joining from Eldoret based club GFE 105 that ply their trade in the National Super League at turn of the year and has been the shining light in Nakumatt's topsy-turvy season scoring seven goals with the most recent coming in the 1-1 draw against Zoo FC. The winger has continued his fine scoring form from last season where he netted 11 goals finishing as the club’s top scoring and helping the club survive another season in the second tier.
With many clubs out looking for a young goals scorer, Mukhekhe was linked with a host of clubs in the concluded June transfer window, “Many clubs wanted to sign me most notably AFC Leopards, Tusker and Ulinzi Stars but I decided to stay with Nakumatt.”
Mukhekhe came off the bench in the game against Zoo score a penalty in the 62nd minute but was unfortunate not to be the match winner as Nicholas Kipkirui cancelled out his opener, “The game was okay, I was a substitute in the game but I promised to score when I came on and true to my word I did.”
The youngster has been a regular starter since joining Nakumatt, and when asked his reasons for starting from the bench he said, “I had played a lot of games so I needed some rest, because since the start of the season I haven’t had a rest.”
He hopes to continue his fine scoring form till the end of the season after having a wonderful first leg of the season, “My target is to continue scoring and helping the team but at the start of the season I have a target of 14 goals.”
Nakumatt next face Thika United on Saturday 28 July at the Thika Sub-County Stadium.
