Brian Yakhama netted the only goal of the match to ensure visitors Nzoia FC beat Nakumatt FC 1-0 in a Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match staged at the Ruaraka Grounds on Saturday 26 August.

The match started on a high note, with both teams keen to net early goals. It was Nzoia with the first attempt in the 10th minute, after Lawrence Juma tried a long range shot from yards out but Ezekiel Owade in the Nakumatt goal kept it out. It was now the hosts turn to try and pull an early upset after Kevin Omondi found Clinton Kisiavuki with a penetrating pass that caught Nzoia defenders napping but he would not get to the end of it.

Eugene Ambulwa then sent in a long range ball into the area finding Boniface Akenga but the latter's resultant shot did not trouble Mustapha Oduor in Nzoia FC goal. The hosts now dominating the proceedings, after Peter Nzuki sprayed the ball to the right wing to find an overlapping Nicholas Meja who brought in an in swinger but Akenga nodded it over in the quarter hour mark.

Aswani attempt

The sugar millers then launched a counter attack, after Stephen Wakhanya found Brian Yakhama with a well timed ball but his attempt swerved off target. Wakhanya then took matters into his owns hands, sending in a thunderbolt from outside the area but it would fly over in the 25th minute. The shoppers too threatened as Kepha Aswani came close to the opener but it was not forthcoming.

The hosts won a free-kick in a prime position but skipper Peter Nzuki lifted it over the bar. Nice give and go passes between Luke Namanda and Collins Wakhungu could have put the visitors ahead just before the breather, but Nakumatt defense stood tall. Nzoia upped the tempo after the breather, wasting a chunk of their chances. Bernard Mwalala then withdrew Collins Wakhungu and brought in Victor Omondi in the 62nd minute.

Yakhama goal

Omondi would then announce his presence with a powerful header after connecting Namanda's cross but he could not find the back of the net. Nzoia in a bid to push for a win made a second substitution, with Benjamin Muchuma replacing Patrick Kwitonda. Nakumatt also brought in David Gateri and Bruno Kiyai for Kepha Aswani and Collins Kisiavuki as they battled to salvage a point from the match.

It was however Nzoia with the last laugh in stoppage time after Brian Yakhama calmly slotted in Luke Namanda's cross to net the winner.

Sofapaka 1-1 Posta Rangers

In Narok, Sofapaka drew 1-1 against Posta Rangers with Kennedy Otieno putting the former ahead in the 56th minute, before Ezekiel Okare restored parity in the 89th minute to hand Batoto ba Mungu a share of the spoils.
