Following his match winning antics for Girona against Las Palmas over the weekend, it has now been revealed that Michael Olunga's hatrick had been predicted by Jordi Balcells, the Catalan team's physical trainer.

Olunga who netted his first goal(s) for the team since joining on loan from Chinese Super League (CSL) side Guizhou Zhicheng has endured a tough time in Spain making only five appearances, four of which have come from the bench.

History Made

But he made sure his fifth appearance didn't count for nothing as he went straight into the history books after becoming the first Girona player in history to net a topflight treble. He scored the team's 12th, 14th and 16th home league goals.

It all started a day before in the team's final training session on Friday ahead of the game when the former Gor Mahia striker told trainer Balcells "I know tomorrow's game is very important and I am convinced that we will win." An article on Catalan newspaper Diari de Girona reads.

Premonition

Balcells response was a premonition, "you will make your mark tomorrow," he said "you will score twice and grab the winner in the 88th minute."

Balcells is fluent in english and deals mostly with the team's foreign contingent of players. He is close with Olunga and has very kind words to speak of the Kenyan international. No wonder right after breaking his duck, the lanky striker avoided his teammates and chose to celebrate his goal with Balcells. Sharing a quick embrace on the touchline.

"He is very young and has been playing in China and is now in the first division here. It is not easy," Balcells opines.

"He is a very intelligent player and has studied engineering. He is jovial, open and is filled with a desire to learn.

"Off days are rare with him and in training he puts all the desire in the world and whenever he seems down I would tell him 'be calm because your moment in Girona will come'.

Olunga's time did certainly come on Saturday and we can all thank Balcells for his guidance.
