Mathare United assistant coach Salim Ali has blamed poor defence as the main reason why they suffered a 1-5 drubbing at the hands of Ulinzi Stars in their Kenyan Premier League (KPL) clash held at the Nauru’s Araha Stadium on Sunday 23 April.

According to Salim- quoted by the club on their Facebook Page, his team defended poorly more so in the first quarter of the game and only made things worse when they tried to get back into the game when the scores were at 3-1.

"We defended poorly in the first 15 minutes and we were punished for that. The bad start made things very difficult for us.

"This is a very big loss in the history of Mathare United. We tried to get something when it was 3-1 but unfortunately we ended up conceding more. It is a big concern when we concede this way,” opined Ali.

Ali who will be standing in for the suspended Francis Kimanzi for the next one month will hope for a change of fortunes when his team comes against Chemelil Sugar in their next league tie.

The Slum Boyz are currently placed 17th with five points.
