After winning the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) golden glove last season, Bandari FC goalkeeper Faruk Shikhalo is already looking forward to the new season.
The shot stopper while speaking to Soka admitted the pressure is on him to replicate last season heroics and this has been compounded by the fact that the national team has qualified for the African Cup of Nations which is a factor that will motivate fellow goalkeepers in a bid to earn a slot in the national team.
“I am ready for the new season and the preseason has gone just fine and I’m looking forward to the new campaign. It won’t be easy to replicate last season’s performances but I believe with the group we have nothing is impossible. Harambee Stars have qualified for AFCON and this is a motivation enough for me to do even better if I am to maintain my slot in the team. Everyone wants to be on the plane so it means I have to work even harder in the new season,” Shikhalo said.
The team begins their campaign with a tie against defending champions Gor Mahia in Mbaraki and the keeper states that these are the kind of games he looks up to as a goalkeeper.
“We are prepared well for them. Our last meetings have been balanced and I believe we can pick something from the game. It is not about me alone but the entire team, we need to be at our best because they are one of the best teams in the league. Everyone wants to give his best in such games and should we pick the required points it will help us as we head in the season,” Shikhalo added.
The tie against Gor Mahia is slated for Saturday 8 December at the Mbaraki Sports Club from 3 pm EAT.
