Sony Sugar skipper named July’s finest

A fine run in the month of July, two goals and two assists have earned Sony Sugar forward Enock Agwanda his first recognition as the SJAK/SportPesa Kenyan Premier League Player of the Month, with the stocky forward feted on Tuesday 21 August.

The forward, who is doing his second stint at the Awendo based side, has been a key figure in the team’s rise since his move from Ushuru FC, and provided goals in wins over Nzoia Sugar and Sofapaka in the month, which were crucial in seeing the side rise to the current placing, in the top half.

Kshs 50000 for club

For his award, the striker has taken home a Kshs 100,000 token, a personalized trophy as well as a 49 – inch LG television courtesy of SJAK partners, electronics company, LG. for his exploits, the Awendo based team also bags Kshs 50,000.

Agwanda, who has previously played for Sofapaka, Gor Mahia and Bandari before switching to Ushuru then Sony, becomes the sixth player to win the monthly award this season. He beat Bandari keeper Farouk Shikhalo and team mate Tobias Ochieng to the award.

Former Bandari midfielder Anthony Wambani was the first to win it this year, in February and he was followed by Ezekiel Odera of AFC Leopards then former Nzoia Sugar man Elvis Rupia was next, in April. Boniface Mukhekhe (Nakumatt), and Jacques Tuyisenge (Gor Mahia) bagged the May and June awards.
