After a two – week lull, the National Super League (NSL) action is set to resume with a full plate, starting Tuesday 22 August and running to Friday 25 August, where 10 matches are on the cards, two listed on the live games roster, and Ushuru FC playing twice in the period.

First to the pitch will be a faceoff between the promotion chasing Ushuru FC playing away to newly promoted Administration Police on Tuesday at Camp Toyoyo. The Taxmen, fourth on the log, have played a game lesser than fellow title contenders and will be seeking to leap to second with a win.

So far Ushuru have garnered 40 points off 19 matches and trail leaders Vihiga United by seven points. Administration Police on the other hand, have not had the best of times in the second tier and are placed 14th on the log with 21 points from 20 matches.

Friday action

The rest of the matches are scheduled for Friday.

Should the Taxmen live to the expectations in this clash, they will have the chance to consolidate second spot four days later when they turn host at Camp Toyoyo, to welcome another newly promoted side, Isibania FC, who are a distant 12th on the log with 25 points off 19 matches.

Two of Ushuru’s challengers for the automatic promotion slots – Nairobi Stima FC and Wazito FC – will be playing away from home, giving Ken Kenyatta’s side an advantage of sorts. Stima, who currently occupy second slot on the table with 43 points, will be making the short trip to Thika where they’ll take on the struggling Bidco United, who have so far managed just two wins in the season and are placed 17th with 12 points.

Wazito psyche

Meanwhile, third placed Wazito FC will be traveling to Kisumu to take on sixth placed Palos FC who are also harbouring promotion ambitions. Wazito will head to this clash needing a massive psychological boost following their 7 – 1 demolition by AFC Leopards in the GOtv Shield quarter finals on Sunday 20 August.

Wazito, on 42 points, will be parading a 10 – match unbeaten run and seeking to go second at the expense of Stima who are on 43 points.

Live matches

Two matches will be aired live on Bamba Sports on Friday, both at Camp Toyoyo – the first will see FC Talanta host Agrochemicals FC starting 2pm EAT before paving way for Nairobi City Stars against GFE 105 at 4.15pm EAT.

The first match of the day on Friday will however see bottom of the log side, MOSCA presented with a chance to vie for a first win of the season when they take on visiting Mombasa side, Modern Coast Rangers, this clash at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, starting at 1pm EAT.

League leaders Vihiga United, buoyed by an emphatic win over KPL champions Tusker FC in the GOtv Shield on Sunday 20 August, will have a rather easy outing at home at the Mumias Sports Complex when they welcome the struggling St. Joseph’s. A massive 38 points separate the two sides, Vihiga at the summit on 47 and the visitors second from bottom on nine points, having managed just one win in the season.

Dark horse

Fifth placed KCB will be looking to shed their dark horse tag and keep up with the promotion chasers when they play host to Ezekiel Akwana’s Nakuru AllStars. The Bankers recovered from their run of two straight draws to beat GFE 105 3 – 0 in their last outing and Leonard Saleh will hope his charges build on the big win when they face AllStars, who have gone winless in their last seven matches, their last victory coming way back in May.

The 10th match of the week will see Kenya Police carry their artillery to Narok, where they will do battle with newly promoted Kibera Black Stars. Seventh placed Police, who have managed 31 points so far, are on an eight – game unbeaten run in the league and standing 10 points ahead of their opponents on the day places them as firm favorites.
