Visiting Harambee Stars held Uganda Cranes to a goalless draw in an international friendly match played on Tuesday 30 August at Nelson Mandela Stadium, Namboole from 4.12pm EAT.

Uganda had the first chance at goal in the opening minutes through Geoffrey Massa who forced a corner kick that was taken by Godfrey Walusimbi but Victor Wanyama cleared off the line.

On the 14th minute, Moses Oloya’s attempted run was deflected off by Erick Ouma for a fruitless corner. Massa, on the 22nd minute brought down Wanyama outside the area but the Tottenham HotSpur midfielder took the resultant free kick overboard.

Livelier

Khalid Aucho and Walusimbi exchanged one two passes to find Massa but the South African based forward was fouled outside the area. The newly signed Baroka striker took responsibility to convert the free kick to no avail as the Cranes looked the more urgent side as far as looking for a goal was concerned.

Kenya literally struggled to break into the Cranes backline led by Simba and St. George FC’s Jjuuko Murushid and Isaac Isinde. Jesse Were’s 36th minute shot was blocked by Isinde with Ayub Timbe’s runs on the flanks well monitored by Walusimbi.

Kenya was livelier in the second half and nearly got onto the score sheet. Eric Johanna’s chip on the 58th minute veered off the mark after being put through by Jesse and on the 61st minute, Ouma’s free kick from the edge of the box on the left channel was blocked by a four man wall after substitute Danson Kago had been brought down by Aucho.

Blushes

The former Gor Mahia midfielder saved the hosts the blushes on the 65th minute when he ran fast to clear Timbe’s goal bound chip with Jamal Salim well beaten. Boniface Oluoch twice came out to save Uganda’s attempts through Luwagga Kizito and Tony Mawejje.

The Cranes were using the match in preparation for their do or die clash at home to Comoros on Sunday 4 September as Kenya braces for a dead-rubber fixture away to Zambia in the last round of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
