Ulinzi Stars Head coach Dunstan Nyaudo believes Hassan Rio Mohammed’s injury picked in their Kenyan Premier League (KPL) tie against Kakamega Homeboyz as ‘not serious as they initially thought’.
Rio was forced off the pitch in the final half of the clash against Homeboyz staged at Bukhungu Stadium on Saturday with an ankle injury after landing badly.
Nyaudo says the defender sprained the ankle but will not be sidelined long since the doctor has confirmed the injury isn’t bad. The defender will be further assessed ahead of the next league assignment.
"It is not as serious as initially thought. He landed badly and sprained his ankle but I talked to the doctor and he says it is not bad. We will have an assessment on him in the week and see if he can play the next game," he told the club’s official portal.
Despite Rio’s injury the Soldiers managed to pick maximum points from Homeboyz backyard, marking their first ever top flight win over the Kakamega-based side. The sides have met seven times in the League and draws (four) have dominated the clash. Homeboyz had won two matches in those seven meetings.
Ulinzi Stars face Posta Rangers on match day seven.
