Ulinzi Stars duo of striker Samuel Onyango and goalkeeper James Saruni have been named by the club as the players of the month for February and March respectively.

Saruni who has been a pillar for the soldiers in recent years thanked the club’s management for the recognition with Onyango, who has been one of the brightest prospects both at club and national team level, dedicating his award to his team mates; both speaking to the club’s official portal.

“I am happy to get this award and I want to thank the management for the recognition,” Saruni said.

Team Mates

“It is great and I couldn’t do it without my team mates. This is a motivation to work harder,” Onyango added.

According to the Team Officer in Charge Captain Godwine Baraza said, the awards was initiated to ensure there was enough competition in the team.

“We want to ensure there is enough competition in the team as well as motivating those who do well and go out of their way. The two (Onyango and Saruni) have been quite impressive in the opening two months of the season. We congratulate them for their hard work” Baraza opined.

CAF Confederation Cup

Onyango scored three goals during the CAF Confederations Cup matches against Al Hilal Benghazi and Smouha despite being ousted from the competition by the latter and received his first national team call up recently against Uganda Cranes and DR Congo.

Saruni who was a hero of a sort when the club eliminated Al Hilal in post-match penalties has only conceded two goals in four matches so far.
