Gor Mahia head coach Hassan Oktay has backed under fire defender Pascal Ogweno ahead of their weekend CAF Confederations Cup tie against Cameroon’s New Stars de Douala at the Moi International Sports Center (MISC) Kasarani.
Ogweno was substituted in the club’s midweek clash against Posta Rangers in what the coach termed a tactical switch though admitting that the defender has struggled in two or three games but he backed the former Kariobangi Sharks man to come good in the near future.

“Pascal's sub was for tactical reasons. He made a mistake and I saw him - he didn’t recover. Some of the players are mentally weak and he struggled two or three times. I took him off, I talked with him and I have made him ready for the next game. He will come good, there is nothing wrong with him,” Oktay said.
Oktay has been regrouping for another crucial game this weekend, against Cameroonian side New Stars de Douala in the CAF Confederations Cup. He has already conjured a plan against their opponents whom he says have mobile strikers. He knows he has to get this right and admits that progress to the group stage will be good for his team and the country as a whole.

“We are going to start (preparing) from tomorrow (Thursday). We have some plans, we know they got mobile strikers. They can score and funnily they play better football home than away.
“Yes of course. It (qualifying to the group stage) is not only for me but it’s for Kenya. It’s very important point wise in Africa and everyone will recognize the country more when we make it to the next round. I don’t look it as mine but as a country thing,” Oktay added.
In the absence of Captain Harun Shakava and Joash Onyango who are both suspended for the game, Oktay might recall Ogweno to the starting team to partner Charles Momanyi at the heart of the home team's defence.
