Vihiga United registered the fourth win of the season following 2-0 win over Sony Sugar in a league match staged in Awendo on Saturday 19 May.
Being the first meeting of the Kenyan Premier League, Sony Sugar's target was to pip the newbies and bring to an end a 12 match winless run. For Vihiga their target was to get the second straight win in the top tier.
Sony Sugar found themselves behind after conceding an own goal in the first minute of the tie. The side would immediately launch a chase for the equalizer but were kept at bay by George Oputi.
Five minutes to the break the Millers received a major blow after John Wanda’s beautiful strike saw the Vihiga County Sponsored side take a 2-0 lead. Vihiga is now placed 12th on the log with 19 points. Sony Sugar is 17th of the log with 11 points.
In Mombas, Bandari FC were held to a goalless draw by visiting Posta Rangers.Heading to this clash, Bandari were placed fifth on the Kenyan Premier League log after 15 league rounds. Their opponents Posta Rangers were five places adrift with 19 points.
In the last six league meeting, three matches had ended in draws, Bandari had one win while Posta Ranger had won this fixture once. Only five goals had been scored in the tie. The first attempt by Bandari came from Collins Agade but his curler missed the goal by inches. Atarazi Meja effort into the 18 yard box was cleared out of danger by the mailmen.
The Dockers were later forced into making an early substitution in the first after William Wadri’s injury. David Kingatua was brought in as his replacement. Other chances from Bandari saw Hassan Abdalla’s shot miss the target at the 60th minute before Meja’s free-kick and Kingatua’s effort went wide.
Wycliffe Ochomo also tried his luck, but he ended up side- netting his shot in the final quarter of the game.
Posta Rangers also had a share of chances in the tie but could not also break Bandari’s defence. The draw puts Bandari at the fourth spot with 24 points. Posta Rangers, on the other hand, remain 10th on the log.
