Harambee Stars skipper Victor Wanyama was part of Tottenhamn Hotspur squad that trained in Barcelona on Monday ahead of their weekend clash against his former side Southampton.
It is the third season in a row that manager Mauricio Pochettino has taken the side to Spain for mid-season training. He believes that training in a new environment is good for the team and will help create a bond between the old and new players.
“It’s always important to spend time together. The new players, the staff, to know each other, to spend time together, to do things together and to breathe a little bit and change the conditions. It’s true that we have amazing facilities, but always to change the routine is important. It’s a moment and a break that helps for the rest of the season,” Pochettino told Spurs official portal.
“Barcelona is so close to London and with the weather we have here, to feel the warmth is important to lift everything, to breathe a little bit and we believe it’s good to create that atmosphere,” he added.
Wanyama will be hoping to make a return to starting lineup for the first time since August when he started against Chelsea. He has played 161 minutes this season.
