After losing to 2017 Champions Gor Mahia FC by a solitary goal in a Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match staged at the Mumias Sports Complex on Saturday 11 November, Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Mike Mururi has blamed his charges for missing clear cut chances during the match.

The Kakamega side missed a penalty after which Wycliffe Ochomo was sent off for an elbow on Harun Shakava. According to Mururi, the costly misses made it difficult for his side to recover.

Missed penalty

“We played well in a big game, the players gave their all, we won a penalty but we failed to convert. Against a team like Gor Mahia a penalty should be a goal because once you miss you get punished. We had other chances to score but we were not very sharp in front of goal,” he said.

The former Kenyan international is however impressed by the fact that his team put up a good show despite being a man less. He now looks forward to a better show when they face Nzoia in their next league match.

Good performance

“In the second half we had fewer chances considering we were a man down but we still played well contained them and I want to thank the boys for the good performance we now shift focus to our game against Nzoia, he said.

Homeboyz are sixth on the log with 49 points garnered from 33 matches.
