Zoo Kericho midfielder Michael Madoya is the June/July 2017 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) Player of the Month, after being voted so by the Football Committee of the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) and duly awarded at his team's training base, Kericho Green Stadium on Tuesday 26 September.
Madoya who has been in scintillating form and aiding the team's side greatly. His contribution in the month saw him garner the most votes, beating his teammate Nicholas Kipkirui, Chemelil's John Mwita and Sofapaka forward Ezekiel Okare. He is the fourth player to bag the award after Nzoia defender Brian Otieno, Ulinzi forward Steven Waruru and Gor Mahia midfielder Ernest Wendo who were feted for outstanding performances in March, April and May respectively.
The SJAK Player of the Month Award is sponsored by LG Electronics and betting firm Sportpesa. This feat will see Madoya walk away with a 49 inch LG TV set, a personalized trophy and Ksh. 100,000. The club also gets Ksh. 50,000 in addition to the individual award.
His award comes in the wake of an high court order directingg that the KPL reverts to it original composition of 16 teams from the current order that consists of 18 teams. Zoo Kericho and Nakumatt have in effect been suspended.
