BREAKING: Kenyan winger set to join Turkish side

Kenyan international winger Paul Were is set to join Turkish 1st division side Denizlispor SC on a one year contract. 

Were, who until last season was featuring for Greek side Kalloni FC, is set to put pen to paper on Monday 8 August.

The winger has been training with the side during their preseason programme and seems to have impressed the team’s technical staff led by Coach Karay Palaz.


“Denizlispor has agreed a one year contract with Kenyan Paul Were Ooko after impressing in preseason with the team,” read a statement on Turkish site Habeturk.

Denizlispor is a club based in Denizil, Turkey. They host their matches at a 19, 500-capacity Denizil Ataturk Stadium.

The former Tusker FC and AFC Leopards winger, in an interview expressed delight in the move.

“It’s good for me and I can only look forward to enjoying my time here in Turkey. I can't wait to start the season with my club and hope to do my best on the pitch,” he told Soka.


They kick off the 2016/17 season with a home match against Bandirmaspor on Sunday 21 August. Were has also played in the South African Premier Soccer League with AmaZulu FC.

He has 29 caps and five goals according to fostats.com
