Kenyan international John Makwatta netted a late winner for Buildcon FC as the newly promoted side came from behind to beat Green Buffalos 2-1 in a round 16 Zambian Super League (ZSL) clash at the Edwin Imboela Stadium on Wednesday 2 August.

Makwatta's goal, the third in two matches for Buildcon, ensured the team rises to the top half of the table, coming after he netted twice against Real Nakonde in the previous match.

Newly signed Ugandan internationals Boban Zirintusa and Geoffrey Sserenkuma started from the bench in the game.

Buffalos had a strong start and hit the bar just seven minutes into the game from a well struck free kick and in the 32nd minute their pressure finally paid off as Friday Sam opened the scoring for the Buffalos to hand the hosts a 1-0 half time lead.

Buildcon started the second half a rejuvenated side in contrast to the first half and leveled matters just two minutes into the half through Fiddle Bosandja.

In the 72nd minute Kenyan Clifton Miheso was withdrawn for Musa Ndusha as Buildcon pushed for a winner. But that came from another source, shotly after, as in the 74th minute former Ulinzi Stars man John Makwatta netted with a perfectly times volley to secure the three vital points for Buildcon.

Makwatta was named Man of the Match and walked off with a 1000 Kwacha cheque (roughly Kshs 11,000).

Assistant coach John Lungu who is in charge of the team with the head coach Jadrane Hicham out of the country attending to private matters has now won two games in a row. The win sees Buildcon climb to 10th place and Green Buffalos drop to fourth after missing an opportunity to go second with a win.

Elsewhere Kenyans David Owino, Anthony Akumu and Jesse Were all started for ZESCO United as they beat Lumwana Radiants 1-0. Striker Maybin Kalengo scored only goal in the 88th minute from Jesse Were's pass off the left flank. ZESCO have now won four games consecutively and are two points below league leadsers Napsa who have played three games.
