Harambee Stars trio of Jesse Were, David Owino and Anthony Akumu  started in Zesco United’s 2-1 loss to Etoile du Sahel in the CAF Champions’ League group stage match played on Wednesday 16 May at the Olympic Stadium in Sousse.

The first half ended goalless despite Etoile dominating the better part of the half. On return from the break, Tunisian forward Alaya Brigui scored the opening goal of the clash.

The Tunisians would add the second goal through Egyptian star Amr Marei at the 56th minute. Former Tusker FC striker Were was pulled off at the 65 minute and his place was taken by Enock Sabumukama as the chase for the goals intensified.

Zesco United fought back and netted the consolation goal in the additional minutes of the tie through Lazarous Kamboole.

The win sends Etoile top of group with four points same as Swaziland side Mbabane. The side is favoured by a superior difference. For Zesco, they are bottom of the standings on one point following an inferior goal difference compared to Angola’s Primeiro de Agosto.

Zesco will be hoping to register the first win in the Champions’ League group stages as they resume action in July. They will host Agosto in Ndola as Etoile to face swallows in Swaziland.
