As the Kenya national team Harambee Stars held Mozambique to a 1-1 draw in a friendly tie in Maputo on Saturday 2 September, Kenyan international Johanna Omollo was in action for his club Cercle Brugge as they overcame Lierse SK 2-0 in a Belgian Division One tie held at the Jan Breydelstadion-Brugge.
Omollo clocked the entire minutes for his side with Buno Gianni having given the home side a 1-0 lead from the spot heading into the break before Gasper Jordy scored the other in a game that saw two red cards dished out; Yakubu Issahaku given his marching orders for Lierse before Brugge were reduced to a man less with Taravel Jeremy sent off.
The win moves Brugge to second on the log with nine points as they bid to earn promotion to the top flight. Omollo's team is a point behind leaders Beerschot-Wilrijk with four rounds gone.
Lierse is the former home of Kenyan international Ayub Timbe Masika who has since moved to China. Both had received call ups to the national team ahead of the Mozambique friendly but pulled out due to club commitments.
Omollo joined the club in August 2017 from Royal Antwerp whom he had helped to gain promotion to the top flight; his knowledge of the Belgian Division One League being one of the key factors why Brugge moved for his services, and he will hope he can replicate his performance against Antwerp in helping his new side to promotion.
Brugge has only lost one game in their last five games in all competitions.
