Mandela features in Maritzburg loss, Ekhalie's Mariehamn draws

Kenyan International Brian Mandela featured for 67 minutes as Maritzburg suffered a 2-1 loss to Orlando Pirates in Premier Soccer League match staged at Johannesburg Stadium on Saturday.

Simon Kutumela netted Pirates' opener for a 1-0 lead at halftime. Happy Jele then gave the home side a 2-0 lead in the second minute of the final half after being set up by Luvuyo Memela.

As Maritzbug continued to chase for an equalizer, Mandela was pulled off and Mxolisi Kunene was called up to fill his viod. Siyanda Xulu scored for Maritzburg but it turned out to be a consolation.


After the loss, Mandela’s side is placed sixth on the PSL standing with 28 points as Pirates assume second spot with 33 points from 20 rounds.

In Finland, Kenyan midfielder Amos Ekhalie clocked 61 minutes in Mariehamn's 1-1 draw against TPS in a Soumen Cup played at the Javenture Areena on Friday.

Mariehamn scored first through Nicklas Maripu while the equalizer came from Onni Valakari at the 78th minutes. Mariehamn will tackle Paide in a friendly match on 11 February before taking on Inter Turku in a Soumen Cup clash.
