In a battle that involved two Kenyan Internationals in the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL), Brian Mandela’s Martizburg United came from a goal down to record a 2-1 win over Joseph Okumu’s Free States Stars on Sunday 26 February in a match played at the Harry Gwala Stadium.
This was Roger de Sa first win as Martizburg coach since crossing over from Ajax Cape Town a month ago, a result that sees them rise to eighth on the log with 23 points after 19 round of matches.
Mandela returned to the team after serving his one match ban and accumulated full minutes with Okumu being an unused substitute in the State’s team.
Mohammed Anas drew first blood from inside the area in the 21st minute against his ex-employers however Zimbabwean forward Rusike equalised in the 65th minute before Lebohang Maboe struck late for the home side.
Under De Sa, the Team of Choice had been held to a 1-1 by Polokwane City, lost 2-1 to Kaizer Chiefs and 4-1 to SuperSport United.
