Okumu unused as Free State hold Ajax

Harambee Stars youngster Joseph Okumu was an unused substitute as Free States Stars held Ajax Cape Town to a 2-2 draw in a Premier Soccer League (PSL) match staged at the Athlone Stadium on Friday 17 March.

The home side took the lead on the 18th minute after Jody February misplaced a pass to Paulus Masehe, who then picked out Mohammed Anas with the striker applying an exquisite finish but Ajax restored parity with a well-taken left-footed effort from Mark Mayambela just after the half-hour.

After the goal, Ajax dominence continued and they were rewarded minutes to the break as Rodrick Kabwe latched onto Prince Nxumalo's flick-on to beat an advancing Ngobeni in a one-on-one.

Ajax were then reduced to ten men after Grant Margeman was sent off in controversial fashion after a second yellow presumably for time-wasting  as he was being substituted; a decision that looked to have spurred the home side.

Sthembiso Dlamini struck the post for the home side with 15 minutes left on the clock but were rewarded a minute later. After some pressure, Dlamini’s effort was palmed into the path of the hovering Anas who made no mistake from close range.

The draw leaves Stars at position 13 with 19 points, three points behind Ajax who are placed 12th.
