Kenyan international forward Michael Olunga ended a 14 game goal drought in a fashion – netting a brace to help the team thump visiting IFK Gotenborg 3 – 1 in a Swedish top tier match played on Monday 8 August at Tele2 Arena from 8pm EAT.
Tom Pettersson broke the deadlock on the 24th minute but Olunga restored parity four minutes later. Mathieu Ranegie fired the hosts into a 2 – 1 lead a minute later as the team head for the breather leading 2 - 1.
Upon resumption, the 22-year-old just showed why new coach Mark Dempsey should trust him with the hunt of goals upfront by completing his brace on the 65th minute as the new tactician registered his first win since taking over the job from sacked Pelle Olsson.
A win for Djurgardens takes their point tally to 18 from 17 rounds, eleven behind fourth placed Gotenborg.
They next host seventh placed Elfsborg in their round 17 match on Sunday 14 August. The reigning KPL Player of the year was named the man of the match.
