Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has termed Victor Wanyama’s appearance in the FA cup as ‘important psychologically ’.

Wanyama played a major role in Spurs' 2016/17 season as they finished second in the English Premier League but a troublesome knee the 2017/18 season has seen him make just make four appearances in the league.  He has been out since August when he picked the injury against Chelsea.

90 minutes

The Harambee Stars skipper made a return to the squad against Swansea, played 16 minutes against West Ham and in the FA Cup tie against Wimbledon, he clocked 90 minutes for the first time since returning from injury.

Wanyama and Eric Lamela both played full minutes in the clash and their manager feels that the match was key for the duo.

Important

“I think it's important for him (Lamela) and Victor to feel 90 minutes in their legs. It's so important. For Erik and Victor it's so important to feel like you can cope with 90 minutes. That is so important psychologically in this aspect,” Pochetino told the Evening Standard.

Last season Wanyama made 35 straight league starts after being signed from Southampton. He scored four goals.
